Photographing Birria for San Diego Magazine
January 18, 2024One of my favorite recent assignments was shooting a piece on birria for San Diego Magazine in Guadalajara, the birthplace of this iconic dish. The story took me inside local kitchens and bustling mercados, where I documented the slow-cooked richness of birria, from bubbling pots of consomé to tacos loaded with tender, spice-infused meat. Beyond just the food, the shoot captured the tradition and community surrounding birria—how it’s prepared, shared, and celebrated. It’s always a privilege to tell these kinds of stories through photography, connecting flavors with the people and places that bring them to life.
