March 11, 2025Shooting for The Infatuation: My Approach to Restaurant Photography in Mexico City
I’ve been working with The Infatuation for a few years now, mostly updating their Dining Guides in Mexico City. It’s always one of my favorite gigs—there’s nothing better than getting paid to explore the city’s restaurant scene while doing what I love.
After six years in Mexico, I’ve learned that the best way to tackle these shoots is to keep things simple. Trying to coordinate with every restaurant ahead of time is almost impossible, so my go-to strategy is to just show up with my camera and find a good spot. If I can snag a seat near a window, even better—that natural light makes all the difference.
Every shoot is different. Some places are relaxed and welcoming, while others are packed and moving fast. Either way, I’ve found that blending in, working quickly, and keeping things low-key always leads to the best results.
At the end of the day, the goal of these shoots is to give potential diners a real sense of what to expect—the food, the space, and the overall vibe. Whether it’s a casual taco spot or a high-end tasting menu, the photos should make people feel like they’re already there, getting a preview of the experience before they even step through the door.
